The name given to the surgery performed to correct the appearance of the auricle is Otoplasty (Prominent Ear Surgery).
The prominent ear is the most common ear deformity in the society. It can affect the psychology of the person even at an advanced age, although it is often ignored.
We recommend that the prominent ear be treated before school age in order not to disturb the psychology of children in the following years. As the majority of the ear development has been completed by this time, there is no objection to performing prominent ear operation from the age of 6. The procedure can be performed under general anaesthesia in children and local anaesthesia in adult patients.
The prominent ear operation is an operation that takes an average of 45 minutes-1 hour. It is completed by making an incision behind the ear, bringing the ear closer to the skull and shaping stitches and closing the skin.
Post-operative ears are bandaged for 3 days and after the 3rd day, this bandage is removed and replaced with an elastic bandage. For each patient, the procedure to be performed different from each other, and prominent ear surgery is not a standard operation.
